September 2004

The drama coming from Crazy Pinoy is jam packed this month so no political opinion or reparte' today!

Seattle Welcomed back Nasty Nes over Labor Day Weekend via Bumbershoot festivities and a little something called BrainStorm Battle 4. Nes reports the following:

"This years' BrainStormBattle.com emcee battle 2004 was off tha hook! Big props goes out to Sam Chesneau & Marc Matsui for the hard work they put into this 4 day event & to my dawgs Poison Pen & One Man Army who hosted the battle & to DJ's Vin-Roc & J-Live who layed down the beats on the one's & two's! Chicago's Rhymefest was supposed to fly up & defend his title, but due to personal family issues, Rhymefest did not make it. It was amazing & the winner won by just a hair! This years BrainStorm '04 emcee champ was this young kat, New York's own Aaron Solomon barely beating down Chicago's O.G., Presence"

I couldn't have said it better. When the excavation of hiphop history takes place in two hundred years you know Nes will be on the Westcoast layer! The connection between New York and Seattle has never been stronger. First, there's a big resource called Dove, from Tyger Eye Entertainment. Her publicity and work on the underground makes her a factor, and she is posted up in historic Harlem. Then there is Noc On Wood Records, a very big catalyst for what is happening between both coasts. On September 20th catch them with the famous Wonder Twinz' DJ and tastemakers event at Club Downtime on W. 30th St., featuring Mad Ro and Sonny Bonoho.

And next month the Crazy Pinoys will be joining forces with RapAttackLives.com in New York for its H.U.S.T.L.E. 2004 event. If you are new to the game or want to brush up on what is happening at mixtape, college radio or internet radio levels, this is something to hit. Here's that press information :

Recognizing the role of College Rap Radio, Internet & Satellite Hip-Hop shows & Mixtape dj's in the promotion of rap music, Hip-Hop radio dj & radio promoter pioneer Nasty-Nes established the RapAttackLives.com panel to address the needs of up and coming Hip-Hop dj’s. The foundation of his panel is that the Rap Attack reporting college radio dj represents the grass roots and is responsible for breaking Hip-Hop records first and setting trends long before commercial Mixshow radio breaks it or before they get an ok to give a new Hip-Hop record spins from their stations' PD/MD. The panel itself represents a select group of over 100 dj’s from across the United States and Canada who are committed to promoting new music and impacting their local scenes, free from the politics of corporate rap music culture. This line between underground and commercial radio is what defines the RapAttackLives.com panel, working with both major label projects and independent artists to promote quality music. This year, we will host a major showcase and conference in an effort to rekindle the spirit of community and exposure for new Hip-Hop artists not seen since the days of the original New York's "New Music Seminar," Atlanta's "Jack The Rapper," "The Gavin" and other similar events. "H.U.S.T.L.E. 2004" Conference (Hip-Hop Urban Seminar To Learn & Empower) hits New York City, Oct. 13-16th & is designed to fill this void and join trendsetters and move makers within' the Hip- Hop underground and Rap music industry to discuss the direction of this music genre, culture and lifestyle. For more information, log on to: www.Hustle2004.com.

Hopefully I will be delivering vinyl at that conference for Nocturnal Rage and their newest single, Revolution.

In EA Games news the response for Def Jam's Fight For NY has been a big surprise. If you are one of the lucky tastemakers to get a copy, share it! For the other 400 entries, I will see what I can do!

For Seattle/Portland club and event promoters, get at us for all the 2005 product for EA's line up of games. We have ALL the hot product, visuals, T Shirts and swag that will make it look like you know what you're doing!

BUZZ FOR SEPTEMBER: Krispy Creme Corporate Scandal, Twista Injury, business suits, Hurricane Ivan, Marcus Truffant, ScionNextup.com, V Steakhouse (NY), and the upcoming show failure called Ludacris/Chingy on a wednesday night in Seattle with no promotion.

WANKSTER OF THE MONTH: The suspect in the Michael Long shooting in Seattle (CapitolVenture.net). Michael will survive this and walk again. You will not. Between forsenics and your idiotic attempt to bounce from the messy scene you created, 20 years will be about right. When on parole in 2017 do us all a favor and just pay for a parking space instead of F*&^^g with promoters trying to do legit things in front of the clubs.

WHO'S SHOUTING: Woogie From PhonkButt.com, Pat and Joanie, Wanda Dee, the staff at Vito's (Seattle), Alvin @ RapALot Records, Ferl Davis, and Rob @ The ifirm.
