October 2005
Yeah yeah, the online issue of Drama keeps getting later and later in the month. We're busy, what more can I tell you!
I can't think of anything extra boring than hearing anything more coming from Tanya Harding. Media needs to just let her go. We all know at the end of the day she's a bad girl with problems! Get over it. The fights, the arrests, the drugs, THE TANYA, just leave that skank alone!
Two things about Seattle music Industry "retirement" I like best. First, our publicist gets us dirt without my wasting any more time with silliness going on in the streets, and second, I get to surprise cats at these parties and record release functions/benefits/events or whatever else they're calling these things...take for example the E 40 show @ Neumo's. Hosted by Cool Nutz and the Diddy of the NW, Ghetto Prez. The Crazy Pinoys were more than impressed with Sonny Bonoho and Unexpected Arrival. I was told a few times that UA was doing big meetings and thangs at the major label level, and we hope that's true.
But I Digress, back to the E 40 event..........I didn't stay for this headliner. I'm just tired of people who can't be civil and look up from their Crackberrys when I'm taking time out to introduce myself. So you know what? I don't have to stay, do I ?! Put it like this, old promotions guys always last, MC's who don't disappear from the scene stay relevent by looking up and saying hello! And old guys don't forget bad manners, ever. I'd tell you about Warren G but that's another story for another column. So for now, we'll wait until Nov. 6th in Oakland and see if 4tee has time to look at a Crazy Pinoy in the eye at the Bay Area Rap Summit @ Wild Card club. We'll see.....
The Cancer Rising (www.CancerRising.com ) release party was cool. I spoke to Jake One there for just about the longest he's ever bothered with me, which I think is a step forward in the right direction. I forgot to ask him what track number they gave him for the upcoming soundtrack to that Fiddy Cent biopic coming out next week. The NW has been hearing about beats coming out of here by a few producers but this is pretty big, to say the least.
In promotions news I'm on methadone until my next Bond hit is delivered by my dealer, I mean, UPS. From Russia With Love (EA Sports) brings back the master himself, Sean Connery. Now, don't even front this is the original gangsta, come on. We are also waiting on a leak from Nelly's camp. We also got a nice call from Mr. Ghetto Baby about his 1st quarter calendar, we'll see what happens.
We have a ton of CDs to review. There's an excitable dude representing a consortium out of Seattle that includes 219 Productions, GameTime Records, and Scarred For Life. He handed me about 6 projects and they will be reviewed. Particulary funny was a cover with animation characters from Monopoly on it, titled "Meet The Parkers". Nice cross branding there! More on this as it develops.
So come back and check in on us here once in awhile. You'll notice this is a different column than the E newsletter we fire out to the world. That's becuz only the real cats check for both versions!
Oh, and congrats to the founder, Nasty Nes, on his engagement to a lovely lady by the name of Jen. Oh, the power of My Space. They met there!
