MAY 2007

This is certainly the longest stretch between writing my column I have ever done. It has nothing to do with lack of something to say but everything about other business interests, these days. When I first started in the real estate game, certain real estate circles told me I could maintain the music marketing business and still "do" houses. I don't think so! Still, we have a little time today so let's go!

On the very rare occasion I get to sit down and suffer through television viewing, it amazes me what passes for entertainment. I spent a few moments gawking at the audacious MTV show, Run's House, featuring the Simmons family, executively produced by P. Diddy.

At a very specific level I am in awe at the amount of product placement and corporate plugs being put out as faux drama. I am so impressed from a marketing standpoint. In a mere six minutes here were the companies sprayed out under the guise of Run's lifestyle story: Trump International/Tower, Crate & Barrel, Rush Card, Phat Farm, DeLonghi and Motorola. Incredible. Who needs commericals anymore when it's now in a storyline throughout entire episdoes?!

The other problem about transitioning jobs has to with social environments. These days I am in constant lunch and dinner meetings about land and homes, not Dr. Dre, Lauren Hill or independent record label needs. So it is a great surprise whenever I get an invitation from my music rolodex to kick it the way I used to. Which brings me to Otis William's (Noc On Wood Records/HWA) birthday party last weekend! What a great pleasure to see many of the Seattle playas out and about, including J Boogie, DJ D Doxxx, The Ghetto Prez, DJ B Mello, The Street Kings, Pyro Maniak and Ant, Guy Davis and many more. All held it down at the reopening of Club Aristocrat, now promoted by Lala of www.FunkeSoul.com. I think even the Liquor Control Board and Seattle P.D. were impressed about how cool it was inside as they walked through, looking for any reason to shut the thing down. It Didn't happen.

They should have been across the Washington State instead, helping Kenniwick, Wa. out at the Young Buck afterparty, which I hear was a Baghdad style insurgency at the Hilton Inn! 9 arrests, 28 questioned! What is that, like GGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG Unit, or something. And no, those were not my limousines seen peeling out of the hotel after the exchange of gunfire. I was kickin' bottles with Otis in downtown Seattle!

I am SO upset I missed my man Kieran's call about lunch with Dolemite! Damn!!!!! I was working on my disaster of a project over @ www.BuildDextersHouse.com.

Have you picked up Mr. Cin'atra's new record out yet? Check that out.

Big shout out to Perry P., who tried to get me over to the YingYang party in SpoCompton a few weeks ago. We'll catch up soon, playa. Good lookin' out after an old man. Perry has been doing it independently for many years, always great to hear from him.

BUZZ FOR MAY: New Jay Z label, Shia Lebeuf, www.CondoBuzz.com, Sean Penn loving Hip Hop!, Busta Rhymes Bank Busted? Bend It Like Beckham Real Estate, Adam Brody, getting in an out of San Francisco, Las Vegas real estate meltdown.

WANKSTER FOR MAY: Rudy Giuliani. So, ok, you are best known for doing a great thing by running toward the Twin Towers and speaking on it, plus cleaning up Times Square. Beyond this, your record sucks. It just does. So don't run for President. Please.

"ARE YOU THE LISTING AGENT?"
