I don't watch American Idol. Until recently I didn't know why. But now I do. About twenty five percent of the show has to do with actual talent. The rest defers to america's problem with race, gender, multiculturalism and the politics of humans. I believe American Idol is a symbol of all things wrong with this country's grasp of Quanity Vs. Quality.
I don't watch American Idol. But I do read. Some pundit was quoted as saying Melinda Doolittle, a recent finalist on the show, was lovely and a talent, but would not be signed because America needs it's pretty, skinny young things to really sell records. Well, Bollocks to that, I say. If that Industry observer had instead stated a performers weight and looks will be the difference between 3 million records and 10 million records, I might agree. But not getting signed? Puleez. She will be signed, trust me.
I don't watch American Idol. But I do get on www.YouTube.com to find footage that gets to the point, meaning that I go to a resource that permits me to skip the stupid stuff of television and get right to what I want to view. Melinda Doolittle is, of course, all over YouTube. Watching and listening to her is a joy. Have I mentioned how she WILL be signed? Yes, it's contrary to what some music Industry groupie was quoted as saying on CNN, but she is quite, quite wrong.
I don't watch American Idol. And I am still independent Industry. This means I think a little differently and eat what I put down my own throat, not what mass media is trying to feed me.
I can go to churches and find the most beautiful voices and talent in America, I can get on MySpace, YouTube, www.Siccness.net even, but I don't have to vote in a system that is not based on talent.
