JULY 2007

This whole Carbon Neutrality thing is a crock. I can't stand it. The media is going to tell me that all I have to do is offset the use of the SUV by planting a tree once a year or make a donation somewhere? Puleeeez. This is a Touchy Feely method of obsuring some very scary facts about how the worst specie on the planet is destroying itself.

If you let them tell it, and by "them" I mean all corporate owned media, which is everything we read and listen to, Don't Worry - Be Happy, and be sure to keep spending, consuming or otherwise extract all you can, because, hey, you can make up for it by using those hotel sheets twice! It's just dumb.

Now, I am as guilty as the next person, I know that. I drive mid to low mileage heavy vehicles, trying to remember but often forgetting to bring my Trader Joes shopping bags with me into all markets so I don't have to use the store provided plastic, drink from ridiculous plastic cup lids from Starbucks, keep the appliances plugged in, haven't bought the special lightbulbs yet, haven't started the e mail campaign requesting of particular companies to cut down on its use of paper, haven't yet converted all my bills to online statements, am not on www.GoLoco.org daily to offer or hitch a ride around town, and not looking into how much petroleum product went into that Ascot Chang shirt fabric I just acquired. No, I am a typical critic who doesn't adhere to his preaching, at times. But I will say it again, Carbon Neutrality is a fake, ad driven, Feel Good, worthless media created set of words that make no difference to the Ozone layer or the 30 other verifiable species that go extinct, everyday, because the materials we need to run the cellphone and battery in the Toyota Prius are just Too Cool, man.

This was an urban music and film marketing column for about nine years. Now I don't care. Is stuff going on? yes, but I think sharing with you how important it is to cut down that bottled water drinking is better for this paragraph space.

Ok, so I am waiting for this Dilated Peoples video game to be delivered. The Northwest is a focus market and it's been awhile since I ran an account, in fact, I turn down a lot more than you know, but this one is truly what I consider a Hot release, so I'm in! Don't think for a moment that if you see the Crazy Pinoys handing you a promo copy in the venues and at the radio stations over the next couple weeks, that we are back. We Are Not. But Dilated Peoples? Hot. Look out....

I'm really looking forward for some Seattle-centric stuff that's happening right now, such as the Free Hill B mix CD, video release by Sonny Bonoho, the Mr. Cinatra website and the Support DJ DV One movement going on.

I do feel a bit weird about complaining to prosecutor Norm Maleng about DV One's case just before Maleng passed away, at 68 years old. But I also believe that Mr. Maleng was a passionate, approachable and caring Seattle citizen who followed up on my call for fairness. I also saw him just six days before his death, at an auction dinner / fundraiser for the Eastside Domestic Violence Program. He did appear tired as he received his achievement award. May he rest, knowing he represented Seattle to the fullest.

BUZZ FOR JULY: Aston Martin brand for sale (U.K), Salish Lodge for sale (Seattle), Block Savvy, Xanga, Wii, Capitol Club Sundays (Seattle), Buddha Bar IX, Steve Madden Shoes, Mad Men (AMC), 1200 Bellevue Way (Bellevue, Wa.), Lavender, Mase gets outed?

WANKSTER FOR JULY: This one is very difficult, because Mayor Greg Nichols in Seattle is my dude, all the way. But come on, the proposed nightclub ordinance is not the answer. The city did the right thing shutting down Mr. Lucky's, but Tabella? Not the same issue and not the same thing. It's a positive move how the city overuled you on it, Mr. Mayor. And no, this accolade for July does not go to you because your office shut down the NW hip hop awards either, that was a disconnected and strange thing all on its own. We are simply calling you out for taking on the wrong crusade, that's all.

SOME SHOUTING: Tendi from C.A.V.E. , Mark @ Movement Marketing, Dub @ The Booth, MC Gator (your release from Noc On Wood Records is a new beginning, not the end), R.I.P. Ovio Restaurant (Seattle), and congrats to Shing on his new gig @ Waterfront (Seattle).
