July 2004
When did bad manners and poor attitude enter the urban entertainment Industry picture? I think it completely blew up abut five years ago. Cats who don't know the difference between a cocktail fork and a soup spoon, nodding at you instead of extending a handshake, looking at someone as though he or she were five day old catfish, is that what being "real" comes down to now? Just a little secret to the new school, it's the old school signing the distribution, marketing and artist agreement paper plus all the publicity that goes with it.... so get over to NetFlix or your local video store and rent a Cary Grant movie and work that into your "realness". At the very least you'll learn how to get out of a chair when Sylvia Rhone walks into the room!
The Crazy Pinoys start July's drama with a word about last month's drive to see Jus Family Records in Portland for the Cool Nutz Collabos listening party. It has been many years since we first met CN (at a Gavin Convention if memory serves) and it has been a pleasure to see him grow as an artist, purveyor and tastemaker. We hope to feature his profile on this website very soon. Meantime, cop the album, it's a northwestcoast collectors item.
Yes, Yukmouth's album (RapALot) has been held back until August 20th but that only means you can now add Devin The Dude's new project to the shopping cart, his drops on July 13th. DJs, hit us for wax, the single is called "Too Cute".
If you missed the Absolut/Future Brands event at Noc On Wood Studios last week don't worry about it, there is so much more coming this summer! Book your record launch, video production, bachelorette party or afterparty by calling Elliot Sun @ 206 262 0400. VIP was never this hot! And in recording news, word from the tower over there sez the full delivery of the four records by Nocturnal Rage, MadRo, Pop Du' Rilla and Gator will be presented as an All In deal for that lucky major distributor, stay tuned on that!
Are you going to Play With Bootsy this summer? Damn, I hope so. This record smokes up the game, big congrats to Thump Records. Check out Kelli Ali's feature and re-investigate what the dancefloor was meant for.
Well, my great friend and management client, Mr. Cinatra has upped and left us in Seattle to get in his record label's face about his next project and future show schedule. You may think South Dakota would not be the right neighborhood for it and I thought the same thing, until his checks started showing up for his appearances! Did you think he was leaving town without the Crazy Pinoys signing him to a three year all inclusive management arrangement? hmmmmm? Come on now. We'll make sure Seattle never loses him. Visit Mr. Cinatra at Nightshield.Net.
Do visit the website over the next summer months as we try our best to present what's really going on out there with big focus on northwest urban music artists. Stay tuned and see if we capture profiles for Byrdie, Lac Of Respect, Blue Scholars, Factor, and more!
Don't forget to mark the date, ARS Records and Tapes annual event is scheduled for August 14th. Record Labels... hit up Ferl or Guy for stage and event schedule for the largest urban outdoor party of year! Number is 206.725.7478.
