January 2007

I'm having way too much fun than to worry about when I am going to get this column out! Still, a ten year habit such as The Drama column is hard to break, so let's jump right in.

Oh, wait. Before we get started, allow me to thank everyone in the media who have procured The Drama name for their monthly columns. I won't sue. I really won't. But it's like trying to trademark "That's Hot", which of course, I was saying in the 1980's! Ask anyone!

As I am getting deeper and deeper into the real estate game by the minute, you are going to see that gradual change I have been promising for over a year. It is a blessing for me not to have to deal with whiny rap artists and reps anymore, especially the "one hit wonders" who used to roll into Seattle thinking their second albums made sense and that people actually cared. And now that I'm out of the system, here's a list of them who can kiss my ass! Warren G, 3X Crazy, Boy Wonder from TVT Records (not our Boy Wonder from Seattle, come on now), John Feldman from Arista, Kevin Black, and many others! Don't worry, I'll add to this in the next issue!

Now that the money is straight again and Dexter is back like a Whale Rider, I have been spending some time in the hometown, L.A. Now, if you live there, you never notice, but coming back to it every once in awhile I see how much it changes constantly. Last weekend, I couldn't help but thinking while "doing" dinner @ Cut Restaurant, how it used to be Fernandos Hideaway (Beverly Wilshire Hotel), and as a kid how I dreamed of sneaking in for a Mai Tai. Today, Wolfgang Puck has completely re energized the lobby with his latest restaurant. And the food happens to be very, very good.

On the subject of Wolfgang Puck, we also had a nice lunch reunion @ Spago the same day, with the principal people in my life. Turns out two of them are "very close friends" of Puck, as most everyone with a gold card is, and I found myself chatting with the master chef himself. There is no way he would remember me, but back in the day he would almost jump out of the kitchen at the Horn Street/Sunset location to meet anyone who frequented his place when it first opened, and I was a big fan very early on. Today, he is older, wiser, a bit tired, but he is running an empire, and doing so in a business that requires his personal presence. I don't know how he does it. I told him I was going to be @ Cut around 10:30PM that night and he suggested a nap first! Maybe that's how it's done! Because there he was, front and center, late at night. Like I said, Master Of The Universe.

Part of getting older myself involves not mixing cocktails anymore. It's official,( and this will come as a very great surprise to all my people out there), but I can't do a tini anymore before the bottle of wine comes out. I get sick now, each and everytime! Damn! So don't ask what happened to me or mention how it's not like I used to be, because I already know! This weekend I was deathly ill off of one tini and a little red wine! Old mutha F*%$# fo' sho!

In EA Sports news I am still "In The Game", but it may not be so in 2008. This was the passive account that is close to my heart, as it has been an eight year relationship. Very special shout to Dukki-Yu, who has had my back with them all this time! What a great ride.
