January 2006
Since It's only January I'm not going so far as to say Sonny Bonoho's record release party was the event of the year, but by July I might. For now the call I'm making is Seattle Represented Last Night. I don't know when we've ever heard about big artists flying in from ATL, AL, ID, B.C., L.A., and more just to soak in a Seatown party. And as cool as it was to witness family style unity from the stage, cooler still were the heads I hardly get to see in public except for the important events such as this one, like Mr. D Sane (Street Level), T. Wood Jr. (Noc On Wood Records), Skuntdunnuna, 151, Mr. Network (One Famm), Unexpected Arrival, Mad Ro, Amir (Pak Pros), Otis Williams (Noc On Wood Records), Mr. D.O.G., Funk Daddy, and D Doxxx who seems to have some big things coming so stay tuned for that. And lest I forget, thanks to Kieran @ HWA Inc. who always goes out of the way to get a drink in my hand, he should own a club himself!
My expectation level about Adam Sandler produced films is low. So what a surprise to walk out of Grandma's Boy (20th Century Fox Searchlight / Madison), smiling. There is something hilarious about grown men holding teen angst. Check www.Grandmasboymovie.com and make your day.
I'm clearing my schedule for that Black release from EA Games. I need ten hours per day for four days. Hold my calls.
Bohagon and PlayBoi Tre (BME MUSIC) are sticking around for a few extra days after the Bonoho celebration and we just might have to hit that case of champagne certainly waiting for me at Vito's, Upscale Lounge, Aristocrat's, Wild Palms, etc. this weekend. Be sure to stop by the table and say hello.
So I got a call from a law office asking about a very public difference of opinion I had with KK @ Mr. Lucky's Seattle a couple of years back. Apparently someone is building a case against the club and this firm is shaking the trees out. I don't have anything more to add than what has already been published out there about my five minute problem with that place, but it's interesting to note wagons are circling about......something! I won't be sucked into anyone else's complaint but obviously it's going to court, whatever it is.
Oh look, The Drama so far this month is all about Seattle! When was the last time that happened?!
BUZZ FOR January: www.YFly.com, Chrysler 300 steroid model being released, Slam Jamz Records / Chuck D, more payola related settlements, Sundance, Razr Magenta, Vince Young.
WANKSTER FOR JANUARY: Microsoft's MSN. How can the Gates Foundation fund billions into worthy causes such as eradicating Malaria and yet not maintain freedom of speech for journalists with blogs coming out of China? Yeah, I know billions are traded via manufacturing of your products and upcoming negotiations about search engine and online so don't say I'm naive about the ways of business, but damn, we have amendments in our constitution over here in the USA. Since when does China say who will or will not publish a column? Pulling that content is just plain wrong.
