AUGUST 2006 As many of my loyal readers know, I always end my monthly column with a notable quote. Today, I start with one instead:
"Every seven years the toilet flushes and a new group takes over" Mr. Spelling's sentiments are exactly where I'm at right now. The time has come to divest myself of all things hiphop, urban, whatever. It was a fabulous run, my life, my dream, but something is missing. My ear for talent, for one. I no longer understand the genre. After 30 years in the middle of it, suddenly I don't get it anymore. 90% of it is simply............garbage. Will I miss it? Of course. I have a million business relationships and contacts, friends, family from my time. And I will keep many of them around as long as they'll have me. But the Industry crap is something I never liked and now it's unbearable to be around, even. So what happens to www.CrazyPinoy.com? Well, it's going back to the foun- der, Nasty Nes. The site is legendary by now, so we'll keep it as a forward to www.RapAttackLives.com, which is Nes' radio promotions site. And as for me, well, www.GeneDexter.com is going to be re-tooled completely. And I mean, down to the studs. First, I am going to start with what I really know and love. Great food, music, hotels, travel, jets, leather booths in back of clubs, the perfect martini, and secrets about where to find the best shirtmakers and watch vendors. Autos, of course. Real estate, naturally. Another words, a life somehat more balanced than promoting some tired rap record or labels that don't know what their doing. About 25 different companies come to mind from the past ten years or so! So now you know why I skipped the July issue of The Drama. Nobody notices anyway. Now, it really is all about.............................me. BUZZ FOR AUGUST: www.ArtisanHotel.com. WANKSTER FOR AUGUST: Home Depot. How on earth can you guys be two grand over and above the next bid for covering 1,650 square feet of carpet, laminate and vinyl? That's just nuts. Whoever said small vendors don't have a chance are mistaken. My local and independant flooring company will do just fine, thank you.
